Oooooh! That is a random picture of a pretty building, because yesterday I was TOO BUSY for the camera!
We needed a pair of shoes urgently so we headed for the Galaries Lafayette. I can’t really recommend this place for shoes. In fact, their selection of shoes is pretty terrible. But they have EVERYTHING ELSE.
Those who know me know I’m not a shopper. It makes me cranky and tired and I hate it. But then I’ve never before spent a whole year in a place where shopping is so difficult and pointless. To walk into a mall and see clothes! On racks! Clothes you might actually want to wear! Wow!
After twenty minutes the kids were asking “is it somebody’s birthday?” and we had to get out. We had to get out before I could find myself here in Paris with nothing but non-working credit cards, a changed flight, and a mad husband in Muscat.
When he says “what was this 60 Euros in Galaries Lafayette for?” all I will be able to do is shrug hopelessly and say “it was a Hello Kitty Emergency”.
And a hat. And some macarons.
And I had to replace my bag. Sniff. After my own seven year old managed to pickpocket me several times within an hour, even while I was holding down the flap myself, I gave up. If he can do that, what could a professional do? I walked through the Louis Vuitton section – they are my neighbors after all – and decided I wasn’t that gullible. There’s just no good reason for a man purse to cost $800, no matter who you are.
On Rue St Denis the kids did get pickpocketed. Their total loss was a Wall-E pencil. Somewhere there’s a disappointed thief. The good news is, I think my daughter will quit trying to store her camera in that same insecure place…
In other good news, it is cool and raining (glorious rain! glorious not hot!) and we’re going to the Louvre next. And we’re not in Muscat! Woooo!

And? You got a photo of the pre-tween smiling!
Oooo! Fun! Sorry about the pickpocketing – when I was in Italy, all 20 of my comrades were pickpocketed except me, because I am paranoid. Paranoia works. People laugh, but it works.
What a wonderful experience for the kids to be in such a famous, historical place. Go visit the Bastille!
look how they have grown. She is going to be a knock out. I told Emily how you use to “kidnap” her at church when she asked what I was reading at church.
The boats look fun
